Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital has grown tremendously since we opened the new hospital location in 2013, serving thousands of patients with the best care in the Upper Peninsula. To ensure we can provide industry-leading service and care to the residents of Manistique and beyond, we have added over 75 job positions and have employees housed in three separate buildings to accommodate increasing demand. Our passionate team of healthcare professionals has now expanded to such a degree, that we have outgrown our original space and are ready to move into Phase 2 of our building expansion plans. The 10 million dollar expansion project involves 29,000 sq ft expansion and renovation plans.
By expanding our facilities to include a brand new, state-of-the-art facility, we will be able to take our services to new heights. Offsite departments moving into the new building space and expansion include HomeCare & Hospice, Rehabilitative Services, Wound Care, Accounting, Business Office, Marketing, Fund Development and Education.
Uniting our care team under one roof will allow us to improve continuity of care across departments, meaning that our patients will be able to receive care from the same caregiver throughout their road to recovery. This will also allow us to enhance our coordination of services, as different departments become more integrated and communications can happen quickly and efficiently across medical units.
Along with bringing enhanced efficiencies under the one roof, we will be adding brand new facilities to offer our valued patients.
There will be 10 new infusion suites with two private bays built for our outpatient infusion services (chemotherapy, blood transfusions, etc), providing enhanced privacy and comfort during transfusion procedures. We will also be expanding our Physical, Speech and Occupational Therapy departments with a variety of new facilities including an aquatic therapy pool. The new Rehabilitation Services location will benefit patients across their entire lifespans with adult and pediatric treatment spaces and new facilities and equipment.
The Alan W. Ott Rural Health Clinic will also undergo an impressive transformation allowing for new treatment space for additional primary care providers and specialists. This will enable us to care for more patients and provide better care across the board for our family practice patients and those seeking specialist care. Our Behavioral Health and Psychiatric Services departments will receive additional space for better functionality and to continue the important and life changing work for local residents. Traveling specialists will utilize the new space, improving access and comfort for these vital medical services.
In addition to the above, the building expansion will also include a brand new Outpatient Specialist Clinic. This facility will become the new home of our in- house ENT Specialist, Surgical Podiatrist, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Services, and our outpatient Wound Care department.
The community support has been incredible thus far. Your ongoing interest in our hospital drives our strategic plan and we look forward to a future of continued growth.
