For optimal wound healing and to minimize the chance of scarring, an effective wound care program is crucial.

Many different types of injuries will involve some level of post-incident wound care. These can include incidents like burning, surgery, persistent ulcers, edema, and traumatic wounds. Each wound requires its own unique level of care and attention to ensure it is healing in the best possible way.

Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital specializes in all forms of wound care management. Our dedicated team of highly qualified nurses, therapists and doctors are experts in ensuring wounds are clean, sterile, and being properly looked after.

What Do We Treat?

Every wound requires a different care regime to heal in an ideal fashion. Some wounds will require daily dressing changes, whilst others will need massaging or debriding. Some of the wounds we treat are:

  • Pressure Ulcers

  • Topical Wound and Skin Care Growth Factor Therapy

  • Patient/Family Education
  • VAC (vacuum assisted closure) services
  • Home visits for home-bound

How Can Care Be Accessed?

Whilst we make every effort to treat those in need, a physician referral may be required to receive care from the SMH Wound Care Clinic. Our new office location is at the SMH Outpatient Wound Clinic on 101 Walnut Street in Manistique MI.

Our Wound Care Clinic is also pleased to provide outpatient wound care options to those living in the surrounding area. This involves a trained medical professional coming to your home and assisting with any would care requirements you might have.

Brenda Barber, FNP-BC, GNP-BC, CWS, WOCN Wound Care Specialist

Brenda Barber graduated from the University of Missouri with a dual masters degree in Family and Geriatrics as certified Nurse Practitioner. She became a certified wound specialist in 2001 through the American Board of Wound Management. Brenda works full time in the Outpatient Wound Clinic located at the Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital Outpatient Wound Clinic at 101 Walnut Street.
