Visitation Information

Our Visitor Restrictions Will Change on Monday November 7th.

New visiting hours for Med/Surg Inpatient Unit: 8:00am-8:00pm Daily

Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital will not restrict, limit, or deny visitation privileges based on race, color, national origin, sex, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability.

The hospital will ensure that all visitors chosen by the patient will enjoy full and equal visitation privileges, consistent with the patient’s wishes.

Each patient or his/her support person will be informed of the patient’s right to choose who may visit him/her during a hospital stay, subject to certain clinical restrictions or limitations on such rights, and his/her right to deny or withdraw such consent at any time.

This visitation rights disclosure will be made in advance of furnishing patient care whenever possible.

Children may visit if they are accompanied by an adult, are quiet, and stay in the patient’s room.

Using best clinical judgment, the Charge RN will determine whom/how many visitors will be allowed to see a patient without causing detriment to the patient’s condition or care.  The Charge RN will determine when visitation would interfere with the care of the patient and/or the care of other patients.

Limiting visitation will be considered if any of the following apply:

* Patient is undergoing care interventions;

* Presence of infection control issues;

* Visitation may interfere with the care of other patients;

* Existence of court orders restricting contact (of which the hospital is aware);

* Disruptive, threatening or violent behavior of any kind;

* Patient need for privacy or rest;

* Need for limitation on the number of visitors during a specific time period;

* Need for minimum age requirements for child visitors; and

* Inpatient substance abuse treatment programs having protocols limiting visitation.

Additional considerations will include:

1. Visitors must leave the patient’s room during doctor’s visits, and upon requests of the nurses or patient.  At the request of the patient, a visitor/family member may be allowed to remain in the patient’s room.

2. Inpatients are limited to two (2) visitors at one time if patient has a roommate.

3. Bringing food or drink into the hospital for a patient is prohibited unless authorized by the attending physician.

4. Visitors will be shown to the designated waiting areas, front lobby, or cafeteria when they are requested to leave the patient’s room.

5. Hospital Staff will make every effort to accommodate Pastoral and other spiritual services offered to all.

Flowers & Balloons:

Visitors are welcome to bring gifts of flowers to patients in their rooms or have them delivered to the hospital. Fresh fruit, real plants and fresh flowers should be prohibited from neutropenic isolation rooms. Please check with nursing before bringing in flowers or plants to avoid disappointment.

If you would like to send or bring balloons, please note that only non-latex or Mylar are allowed.  In order to protect our patients and staff who may have an allergy to latex, – balloons made of this material are prohibited.

5 out of 5 stars

The care that was provided by The nurses (Cindy, Felicia Ruth) and staff was exceptional. The entire staff was very friendly and made you feel welcome. We received a call from Felicia the next day to check on my husband to check his pain level and do a follow up. The surgery area from check in to check out was well organized, clean, and up to date. Thank you to all of you for what you do so well and everything beyond your normal duties.

I give him a 5 out of 5! I'm not a Doctor type of person, but he made me feel comfortable right out the gate. Very friendly and professional! Got right to the point and really helped me figure out what was causing my pain! Excellent visit and Doctor!!
Very pleasant personality very informative!
DOCTOR Rayner Absolutely 💯 Great... Bedside manner fantastic.... Made a nervous Grandma at peace... Amazing outcome... Job well done. I recommend highly... Thank you...
Dr. Niemela diagnosed and did surgery on a tendon tear and bone spur on my foot. There had been pain for over a year with each step, and it was more severe as time went on, and even waking me throughout the night. The successful surgery eliminated the pain immediately! No pain to speak of, and the follow-up care was top notch. Thank you Dr. Niemela and staff! Photo one week after surgery.
Dr Stephen clear and chearful in his diagnoses, treatment and directions to the patient.
Very thorough & explains everything he’s doing. Chloe is very friendly checking up on me.

Knowledgeable, Quick & Personable
Dr. Vix and Dr. Foltz are proactive and reactive. They jump into action and get you the care you need right away. There is no waiting periods regardless of shift change or time of the day. They are attentive and efficient. I only wish we had more physicians like them at transfer hospitals. We certainly receive the best care at SMH with the ER staff and nurses.
Always willing to listen and develop plan that works for me. Excellent care and explanations - very positive experience!

Dr. Ranier did a tonsilectomy for our daughter. He and his staff were so kind and caring that our daughter fell in love with them all
I met Dr. Vix in the Emergency Room and he is the best doctor I've ever seen. His bedside manner is so kind, gentle, amd reassuring. He took his time and really made me feel listened to. He explained his treatment decisions and logic clearly, and left room to ask questions. He made sure that I understood and agreed with it before doing anything. He was very kind, and he and all the staff were very caring about my comfort while waiting.
I've been very pleased so far working with Dr Bambach, and really the whole staff at Schoolcraft.
Dr houve is great so is his nurse Cleo
