Robert Crumb

Chief Executive Officer

Bob received his Master’s Degree from Nebraska Methodist, is a Fellow of the American College of Medical Practice Executives and is a Certified LEAN Champion Healthcare. Bob’s career spans over 35 years in both hospital and medical practice leadership.

Bob is an Eagle Scout. He enjoys cooking, gardening, snowshoeing, hunting and family.

Bob was a past president of Emmet County Rotary Foundation, Red Cross, Chamber of Commerce and United Way. He was elected to the Petoskey School Board and served at Treasurer and President. He presently serves on the Board of the Schoolcraft Tourism and Commerce and is a member of the Manistique Rotary Club.

Bob is married to Terri and they have six grown children, 13 grandchildren and one great grandson.

 

 

 

Boyd Chappell

Chief Financial Officer

Boyd received his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Utah State University, his MBA from Weber State University and his JD from Washburn School of Law. Boyd has worked in finance in government and healthcare for over 10 years. He has worked in healthcare finance in a larger community hospital, FQHCs, and Critical Access Hospitals.

Boyd is an Eagle Scout. He earned a Distinguished Service award from the University of Utah Physician Assistant program. He enjoys sports particularly football and baseball, reading, cooking, exploring/traveling, golf, and family.

Boyd is a member of Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA). He has served as newsletter editor for the Utah chapter of HFMA. Boyd has also served on the board of directors for United Way of Valdez. He has also filled numerous volunteer positions within his church.

Boyd is married to Alice and they have three children named Nolan, Afton and Mia.

Kent LaCroix

Chief Information and Ancillary Officer

Kent earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology Security from Western Governor’s University. He is currently pursing graduate studies for a Master’s degree in Integrated Healthcare Management, also from WGU. At the hospital, Kent oversees the Cardiopulmonary, Information Technology, Laboratory, Medical Imaging, and Rehab Departments.

Kent currently holds several professional certifications including Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CPHIMS), Healthcare Certified Information Security and Privacy Practictioner (HCISPP), and other industry certifications from Cisco, CompTIA, and Microsoft.

Kent is a member of the Health Information and Management Systems Society, Information Systems Audit and Control Association, International Information System Security Certification Consortium, Association for Computing Machines, and Microsoft IT Advisory Board. He currently chairs the UP Healthcare Solutions IT Committee. Kent has been active in CBC for over 10 years, helps mentor the Manistique High School Robotics team, and is a member of the BPOE Elks Lodge #632.

Kent is a native of Manistique and lives here with his wife (Tara). They have two kids (James and Juletta) with one more on the way.

Mark Hébert

Chief Quality & Safety Officer

Mark received his Associate Degree in Nursing from Bay College in 2009, graduating with honors. Furthermore, Mark received his Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing in 2014, graduating Magna Cum Laude, from Lake Superior State University. Mark is currently pursuing his graduate studies in nursing at Spring Arbor University (Class of 2021).

Mark has worked at hospitals across the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and the Northern Lower Peninsula in for 9 years specializing in emergency, trauma, and intensive care nursing. Honors include membership in the Phi Theta Kappa International Honors Society, as well as graduation statuses, and multiple dean’s list academic terms.

Mark enjoys travel, camping, golf, interior design, sailing, family, and is an avid auto enthusiast. Mark is a member of the Michigan Critical Access Hospital Quality Network Executive Committee. Mark is also a member of the Michigan Society for Healthcare Risk Management, where he sits on the Education Committee.

Mark is looking forward to adopting (and spoiling) a French Bulldog soon.

Kim Shiner

Director of the Rural Health Clinic

Kimberly received her Bachelors of Science in Business Administration at Central Michigan University and her LPN degree at Gogebic Community College several years later. She has years of experience in management and marketing along with serving as an AmeriCorps Volunteer where she served disadvantaged youth in education before entering the health care field.

Kimberly graduated at the top of her nursing class. She enjoys flower gardening, painting and camping.

Kimberly was elected to the Ontonagon School Board and severed as secretary. She was also a 4-H Leader, Catechist and a member of the Drum and Bugle Corps of Ontonagon.  She presently serves on the City Council for Manistique as Mayor pro tem.

Kimberly is married to John and they have two children and one grandchild. Her husband is the high school principal and together they spend time traveling to visit family, camping and planning their retirement!!

 

 

Scott Blixt, MHA, BSN, RN

Born in Sault Ste. Marie, MI.  Raised in the Township of Ishpeming and graduated from Westwood H.S.  Soon after, joined the U.S. Navy as a Corpsman and served for 5 years active duty.  Upon discharge from the military, I attended Northern Michigan University where I graduated with my BSN (RN).  Immediately following graduation, I began working as an RN at Marquette General Hospital.  At MGH, I began my career working on Med/Surg and cross-trained to the ICU.  Several years later I became the Manager/Director of Outpatient Services (PACU, OP Surgery, ARE/PAT, Endoscopy).  I transferred to the IP service after several years to learn something different, in which I managed Neuro/Ortho, Med/Surg, Peds, and Oncology.

After 17 years at MGH, I decided to do something different and became the Operations Manager at Upper Great Lakes Family Health Center.  There I was in charge of Care management, Supply Management, Maintenance, Safety, Emergency Preparedness, and Education.

During my last year at MGH and first year at UGL, I attended Walden University in which I achieved my MHA.

I have been married for 20 years and we have two beautiful children.  Our kids have begun playing Manistique sports and we have begun to enjoy our transition here.  We thank everyone for the opportunity and welcome and we look forward to our new adventure/experience.  I love the outdoors, where I can fish, hunt and explore.

Kathy Fetterley

Kathy has over 25 years of leadership experience in human resources and hospital operations in healthcare.  She has a Six Sigma Green Belt certification from Motorola University, is a certified Lean Leader, and has a Senior Professional Human Resources certification.  Kathy has worked in small, rural hospitals and large healthcare systems, and her passion is providing service excellence to employees and patients.  In previous roles, Kathy has served as Vice President of Human Resources, Chief Human Resources Officer, Chief Operating Officer, and most recently completed an assignment in California as a hospital consultant.

Kathy was born and raised in west-central Michigan, and has worked/resided in Arizona, California, North Carolina, Kentucky and Wisconsin.  Kathy is married to husband, Curt, and has one son, Andrew.  Andrew works for the largest healthcare system in the Tampa Bay area and is pursuing a career in nursing.

In her spare time, Kathy makes Petoskey Stone jewelry and is a commissioned artist.

Sara Giles

Marketing Director

Sara received her Honors Bachelor’s Degree with a double major in psychology and criminology at the University of Western Ontario.  Sara worked as a counselor for several years before her career in business and marketing.  Prior to her role at SMH, she was the director of a wellness club in Sault Ste. Marie, ON Canada.  Her passion for holistic health and wellness sparked her interest in the health care marketing field.

Sara has years of experience planning special events and fundraisers for various organizations.  Sara serves as the Chair for the Community Staff Relations Team at SMH which allows her to plan events and create community partnerships.  Sara is the Schoolcraft Co. Health Fair and Volunteer coordinator at SMH.  She presently serves on the school board for St. Francis de Sales Catholic Elementary School.  She is the Schoolcraft Co. Coordinator for Operation Christmas Child and the SMH coordinator for the Feeding America Mobile Food Trucks in the area.

Sara resides in Manistique with her husband and son.  She is originally from Sault Ste. Marie, ON Canada and has traveled the world (Australia, Thailand, Fiji, Europe) prior to her move to the United States.  She enjoys the outdoors, adventure travel and spending time with family.

 

 

Kris Boyd

Executive Assistant

Kris received her Associate’s Degree at Bay de Noc Community College.

She has been employed at Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital since November 1987. She serves in the role as Executive Assistant to the Chief Executive Officer, Secretary to the Board of Trustees, and Medical Staff Credentials Clerk, for the first ten years she was also Personnel Manager.

Kris enjoys golf, volleyball, walking, camping, and spending time with her family.

Kristen is married to Addie and has one daughter and one step-son.
