SMH Now Accredited by Joint Commission

Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital has earned Critical Access Hospital Accreditation from Joint Commission, an independent, evidence-based standards setting organization that sets the benchmark for safe, high-quality patient care through healthcare accreditation. This accomplishment formally recognizes Schoolcraft Memorial Hospitals’ ongoing commitment to meeting rigorous performance standards and delivering the safest, highest quality care to its patients. 

The Hospital underwent a rigorous, unannounced onsite survey on June 12-14, 2026. During the visit, a team of Joint Commission surveyors assessed compliance across key areas such as environment of care, infection prevention and control, emergency management, leadership, medication management patient safety efforts and ongoing performance improvement

Joint Commission surveyors conducted on-site observations and interviews to identify performance strengths and opportunities for continued improvement. With decades of expertise and a data-driven accreditation process, the Joint Commission helps ensure healthcare organizations adhere to leading quality and safety practices, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and commitment to better patient care.

Together, we are elevating care for all patients, and we appreciate Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital’s collaboration throughout this process.” 

The preparation for the accreditation survey included activities such as policy and procedure reviews, medical record and documentation audits, infection prevention and control reviews, medication management review and safety checks, Environment of care and life safety inspection and reviews, ongoing quality improvement projects and staff education sessions on standards. 

Our successful Joint Commission accreditation is a testament to the dedication, professionalism, and teamwork of our entire hospital staff. In preparation for the survey, teams throughout the organization reviewed and updated policies, conducted mock surveys, strengthened infection prevention practices, verified staff competencies, enhanced documentation processes, tested emergency preparedness plans, and participated in countless hours of education and readiness activities. Their commitment to quality and patient safety, coupled with the pride they take in serving our community, made this achievement possible. Accreditation is not simply a recognition of meeting standards; it reflects the culture of excellence our staff demonstrates every day in caring for our patients.
